Flu Natural Remedies

flu natural remedies

I’m sharing our families flu natural remedies that we used recently when we had the flu.

It seems everyone’s getting sick right now. It’s just that time of year, I guess. When it comes to treating any kind of sickness in our home we always go with natural remedies before anything else. We truly believe that God created our bodies to function using the natural elements that he provided on this earth. Does that mean that modern medicine isn’t sometimes necessary? Absolutely not. We just think there’s so much more benefit to our bodies if we go the natural route first and leave modern medicine for the rare, extreme happenings of our lives (like when Asher broke his elbow and needed surgery).

Want to hear something crazy, too? I had ordered these a week earlier because I just felt in my gut that we should have them on hand for when it does strike- because it’s not going anywhere and we’re all bound to get it eventually. Talk about the Lord totally watching over us. The last of our remedies arrived the day that Chris became ill. Thank you Lord for your kindness towards us! With that, I highly recommend you do the same. Don’t wait until you’re sick to get what you need to heal. Have it all on hand now so that you’re well prepared when the time comes.

Here is our families flu natural remedies.

Flu Natural Remedies

Daily Multivitamin

Our daily mulitvitamin is part of our normal holistic health routine and of course we kept this going while dealing with the flu.

Vitamin C (500-1000 mg 2x/day)

We take a whole foods vitamin c, meaning the vitamin c comes from real food, rather than ascorbic acid. In my mind it seems to make sense that our bodies would absorb and better utilize a vitamin c that’s coming from real foods.

Vitamin D (1000-3000 IU/day)

I love that this comes in cream form. Did you know that studies show vitamin D is absorbs nearly eight times better when applied topically vs taken orally?!

flu natural rememdies

Quercetin (250 mg/day)

Zinc (20-40 mg/day)

Melatonin (6mg at bedtime)

Colloidal Silver (dosage according to bottle)

Turmeric (1500 mg 3x/day)

Turmeric is a great anti-inflammatory and helped Chris get rid of the brain fog he was experiencing, almost immediately.

Nebulize Hydrogen Peroxide

This has to be done a very specific way that can be found here: https://www.spiritofchange.org/nebulized-peroxide-a-simple-remedy-for-covid-19/

Oregano Oil (500 mg daily)

Chris took this daily while sick. It’s a powerful anti-viral.

Elderberry Syrup (1TBSP 3x/day)

We love the power of Elderberry Syrup in our home and have it on constant rotation during the winter months.

Fresh air and sunshine

There are so many healing benefits of the sun, so much so that we like to get our newborns into the sun as much as possible as soon as possible. We made sure that, even while resting as much as possible, we went outside for fresh air and sunshine every single day. We also open our house windows daily. This is a practice whether we’re sick or not. Did you know that your inside air can be dramatically more toxic than the air outside? A simple breath of fresh air for your home on a daily basis can make a huge impact on your overall health and well-being

Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care can help to boost your bodies immunity by focusing on the health of your nervous system. This study from 2011 shows how chiropractic adjustments have the potential to help boost the immune system. Any time we have any signs of sickness coming on, we run to our favorite local chiropractor for an adjustment and usually see a dramatic improvement. In fact, did you know that chiropractic care was used during the 1918 flu epidemic and those who received it survived at a much higher rate than those who did not.

Rest

I can’t emphasize enough how important rest is when sick. Our bodies need all the energy they can get to fight of the flu (or any other sickness for that matter). Chris fully rested for 3 days, no work, no movement really at all. I took one full day of rest when I woke up with a sore throat and then took it very easy for a couple more days. I believe that played a huge part in our quick recovery.

No sugar

is also a HUGE must when sick. Sugar wreaks havoc on your immune system and you will undoubtably be sick longer if you’re consuming sugar. Instead opt for fruits when needing something sweet.

Our Symptoms

Chris came down with flu like symptoms Wednesday afternoon. We ran to get a test to be positive so that we knew if he needed to start this protocol or not. He was positive. He had 4 days of body aches and fatigue but then was relatively back to normal after that.

My symptoms were just cold like symptoms. I didn’t test but figured I’d do the same protocol anyway. I had a stuffy, runny nose and one day where my throat hurt as well.

Our kiddos were pretty untouched. Noah got a a cough for a few days which made it harder for him to sleep at night. We just brought him into our bed and propped him up a bit and then he slept great!

Curious what vitamins we give our kiddo’s on a daily basis? I share them all here.

We take all the above every single day too. You have to make this a daily habit to keep your immune system healthy. Thanks for breaking it all down for everyone.

Great list! We have had amazing results from the NOW brand elderberry capsules. They are sugar free and my kids like to just dump them in their mouths.

Wow, what a timely post! I’m just on my 6th day of the Flu, and i do take many of the same supplements you have listed here. Have you read the book Vitamin D Solution by Dr. Holick? It is a fascinating read!! I’ve noticed among my friends and family–those who take responsibility for their own health (instead of relying on medical ‘authorities’) have far less fear of being sick! i agree that God makes our bodies to be strong and healthy. What a gift!

I haven’t heard of that book! I’ll have to take a look. And you’re so right- nothing to fear, just confidence that we can treat it!

We did similar plans but I love to see the things others have added for their illness care. We’ve noticed a huge help just with oregano oil. Last summer when I first got the dreaded sickness, oregano was the only oil that really helped and I could see a huge difference when I took it or if I skipped. I still give it to my husband when his cough comes back and it’s gone immediately. I didn’t think of Turmeric. Great ideas!

Yes! My husband did oregano oil as well. I’m currently pregnant so wasn’t sure if oregano oil was ok but also didn’t do much research into it since my symptoms were so mild- thank the Lord.
