The Words We Speak

Did you know that the Bible has much to say about the words that we speak? Probably the most common or well-known verse is found in Proverbs; Death and Life are in the power of the tongue. Proverbs 8:21

Death can be pronounced, simply by the words that we speak. Life can be given merely by the words we allow to leave our tongue.

If given the choice between pronouncing death or life over our children, we as mothers would whole-heartedly choose life. Yet so often I see mothers speaking death, not fully grasping what they are doing.

‘Terrible Two’s’, ‘monster’, ‘terror’… death words.

Want to guarantee that your two year old will be terrible and your experience with them will be terrible too? All you have to do is speak it.

Want to guarantee that your child is a terror to you, their siblings, their friends? All you have to do is speak it.

Want to guarantee that your experience as a mother is frustrating, overwhelming, dreadful, mundane? All you have to do is speak it.

Want to love being a mom? Want to see your children as the sweet blessings from the Lord that they are? Want to see the beauty in the everyday and in the ordinary? All you have to do is speak it.

Power lies in the tongue to give life or sentence death. Which will you choose?
